Issue two of Bravery is all about astronaut and scientist Mae Jemison. Mae became the first woman of color in the world to travel to space in 1992. She conquered her fears and many barriers to pave the way for others in her wake. Issue two teaches about Mae’s life in a fun, engaging way through illustrated stories, fun DIYs, and educational activities that the whole family will enjoy. There’s even a parent section! With an illustrated cover by Maggie Cole and original content and artwork from over 16 talented artists, Bravery is both beautiful and functional. Bravery Magazine is a guide for dreaming and doing, and we hope it will inspire your little ones to be their own kind of brave.

The idea for Bravery Magazine began as a tiny seed planted at a kitchen table back in 2015. After having similar experiences with their oldest girls, Ashley + Elyse came together to talk about the lack of strong role models available to help them teach their girls bravery. After running through a few different ideas, Ashley texted Elyse one day and said, “What if we make this idea into a magazine?”. True to form, Ashley’s idea was golden and they ran with it.

A Kickstarter campaign in September of 2017 had them fully funded in under three days, proving that their idea was valuable and desperately needed. They are very passionate about the mission behind Bravery: that empowering children through stories of other brave women will help them become their own kind of brave.
